Where Do I Find My Strength

Have you ever looked at someone with a disability and thought to yourself, "How do they do it? How do they manage in the world we live in? How do they find the strength to wake up everyday and face it?" I have. Growing up I had an aunt who was a double amputee due to diabetes. Her longest leg was only to the knee. Yet she raised many children as her own! I always found it amazing how she could get a teenage boy literally twice her size in line! But she could. I remember looking at her wondering "How does she do it?" Well I'm not sure where my aunt found her strength, but with having to face and deal with my own disability now, I have had to find my own strength. I've had to search for a way to help me make it through life one day at a time. And now, I've faced days where I couldn't walk, couldn't talk, and definitely could not care for my children or even myself. So I've had to find that strength. And I've found that through my faith in Christ, I find that strength.
Psalm 28:7 says, The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
1 Chronicles 16:11 says, Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.
Psalm 27:1 says, The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
There are many scriptures I can turn to when I'm finding myself lacking strength to face another day. And each of these scriptures remind me exactly where I should look to find my strength. I find my strength in the Lord. When I face the scary facts of dysautonomia like there is no cure, sometimes your meds don't work, and everyday is different with a new problem just lurking around the next corner... it's these days that I remind myself of Psalm 27:1. The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom (or what in my circumstance) shall I be afraid?
I find my strength in my Lord, my Jesus, my Savior, my Friend, my God for there is none like Him. There is none that can comfort me and lighten my burden like my Savior. It's through my personal walk with Christ that I am able to find that strength. I pray that if you are facing your own personal dilemma, and are struggling to find strength, that my words be a reminder to you where all strength can be found.
